Candida antigen (Mannan) detection

What is it? 

This test detects the Candida genus fungus antigen - mannan - in the blood. It is one of the indicators that can help assess systemic or invasive candidiasis, especially when the fungus spreads beyond the intestines or skin. 

When is it recommended? 

• Suspected invasive candidiasis (especially in patients with weakened immune systems); 
• During or after prolonged antibiotic treatment; 
• Patients in intensive care units; 
• Suffering from chronic, recurring symptoms of fungal infections. 

Benefit: 

The test helps to timely detect a fungal infection, which can be life-threatening, especially for hospitalized patients. Early diagnosis is important to start antifungal treatment as soon as possible. 

Important: 

It is recommended to combine the test with other laboratory and microbiological tests (cultures, other antigens). A negative result does not fully exclude the infection.
