How to prepare for the driver's health check?

When coming for a health check for a driver's license, bring with you:

  1. Identity card;
  2. Driver's license (if health is checked again);
  3. Psychiatrist's (mental health center) certificate. Individuals unsure of which psychiatric institution they belong to for obtaining a psychiatrist's report should consult their family doctor or consult a psychiatrist working at UAB Rezus.lt;
  4. Personal health history (ambulatory card) or a form No. 027/a** issued by a family doctor.

Other important information:

  1. Ophthalmologist consultation for every candidate for drivers checking health for the first time;
  2. Ophthalmologist consultation for patients over 70 years old;
  3. Ophthalmologist consultation for patients driving 2nd category vehicles;
  4. Neurologist's conclusion on the ability to drive for patients suffering from any form of epilepsy;

** For individuals who do not have a valid form No. 027/a issued by a family doctor (about health status), or if the clinic where the patient is registered is not in Šiauliai city, or if they are not registered in Lithuania, a mandatory health check is carried out on the spot (tests, electrocardiogram).

How does the health check process work to obtain a driver's health certificate?

To obtain a medical certificate for drivers, various health checkups are performed at the clinic:

  • Blood pressure assessment;
  • Heart rate (pulse);
  • Hearing;
  • Vision;
  • Vestibular function test may be performed;
  • Color sensitivity assessment may be additionally performed;
  • Electrocardiogram;
  • Blood / urine tests;
  • The doctor evaluates the patient's health history, i.e., whether they have any chronic diseases, previous surgeries, what medications they use, etc.;
  • Consultation with a psychologist or psychiatrist is important to assess the driver's mental health condition.

If during the health examination specialists determine that the person’s health is suitable for driving – the medical health certificate is obtained immediately and included in esveikata.lt. After the visit to the clinic, the driver's health certificate is also visible on the “Regitra” website.

When might a driver not be issued a driver's health certificate?

In some cases, a driver's health certificate may not be issued, for example, if the person has health problems that may affect safe driving.

A medical certificate for drivers may not be granted if the person:

  • Has poor vision;
  • Suffers from epilepsy;
  • Has a severe heart or lung disease;
  • Has high uncorrected blood pressure;
  • Has significantly impaired hearing, etc.;
  • Has complete deafness.

A health certificate may also not be issued if the person has certain psychoses and personality disorders when awareness is impaired, inappropriate behavior occurs, etc. A medical certificate for a driver may not be issued if they, for instance, refuse to undergo necessary tests for certain reasons or do not disclose the truth about their health condition.
