Tg | Thyroglobulin

Thyroglobulin (Tg) measurement is used for the diagnosis of differentiated thyroid cancer and other thyroid diseases. The main application of the Tg test is the postoperative monitoring of patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. After complete surgical removal of the thyroid gland, the concentration of thyroglobulin in serum should decrease to values close to zero. Detectable Tg concentrations in serum after complete thyroidectomy indicate persistent or recurrent thyroid carcinoma. Increased Tg concentration can be detected in various thyroid conditions, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, thyroid adenoma, and thyroid carcinoma.
