Tg | Thyroglobulin

Thyroglobulin (Tg) measurement is used for the diagnosis of differentiated thyroid cancer and other thyroid diseases. The main application of the Tg test is the postoperative monitoring of patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. After complete surgical removal of the thyroid, the concentration of thyroglobulin in the serum should drop to values close to zero. Detectable Tg concentration in the serum after total thyroidectomy is an indicator of persistent or recurrent thyroid carcinoma. Elevated Tg concentration can be identified in various thyroid conditions, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, thyroid adenoma, and thyroid carcinoma.
