The validity period of online orders: 3 months from the purchase date.
Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) – is a plasma protein responsible for the transportation and regulation of sex hormones – testosterone and estradiol. Only free, unbound to SHBG hormones are biologically active, therefore the amount of this protein in the body directly affects hormone activity.
SHBG concentration increases in thyrotoxicosis, during thyroxine treatment, as well as during pregnancy or when using estrogen-containing preparations. Decreased SHBG levels are often associated with insulin excess, obesity, or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Therefore, this indicator can be used as an auxiliary measure in assessing the risk of type II diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
Principle of the test: SHBG concentration is determined by an immunochemical method from venous blood. Results are presented in nmol/l units. The test is often performed together with testosterone, estradiol, and the free androgen index (FAI) to more accurately assess the balance of sex hormones.
Recommendations:
- Recommended for patients suspected of hormonal imbalance or endocrine disorders.
- Useful for women with hirsutism, amenorrhea, PCOS, or infertility.
- Prescribed for men with hypogonadism or when investigating the causes of infertility.
- Conducted to assess the risk of type II diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or insulin resistance.
- It is recommended to arrive fasting for at least 12 hours before the test.
