PROG | Progesterone

Progesterone (PROG) – is a steroid hormone primarily produced in the corpus luteum cells and the placenta during pregnancy. Progesterone promotes the proliferation of the uterine lining and facilitates the implantation of the fertilized egg. After fertilization, the hormone reduces the uterus's response to various substances that stimulate uterine contractions. A decrease in progesterone concentration is observed in cases of luteal phase defects and short luteal phase syndrome. If there is a risk of abortion or the fetus is dead, progesterone concentration decreases compared to the normal level expected at that stage of pregnancy.
