PROG | Progesterone

Progesterone (PROG) – this is a steroid hormone, mainly produced in the corpus luteum cells and in the placenta during pregnancy. Progesterone stimulates the proliferation of the uterine lining, facilitating the implantation of the fertilized egg. After fertilization, the hormone reduces the uterus's response to various substances that promote uterine contractions. A decrease in progesterone concentration is determined in cases of impaired luteal phase, short luteal phase syndrome. If there is a threat of abortion or the fetus is dead, the progesterone concentration decreases compared to the normal level that should be present at the corresponding stage of pregnancy.
