AVAXIM - Vaccination against hepatitis A for individuals over 16 years and adults.
Immunity becomes protected against hepatitis A approximately 14 days after the administration of the first single dose of AVAXIM. The protection lasts up to 36 months. If long-term protection against the hepatitis A virus is needed for adolescents over 16 years and adults, a booster dose is administered, preferably after 6–12 months, but can be administered up to 36 months after the first dose.
Anti-HAV antibodies are found to persist for many years (over 10 years) after the second dose.
The hepatitis A virus is most often transmitted through contaminated water and food. Individuals having contact with contaminated subjects are most commonly infected through the oral-fecal route. It is also proven that infection can occur through blood and sexual intercourse (oral-anal route).
