Both markers are used to evaluate treatment effectiveness, disease progression, or potential relapse in patients diagnosed with cancer.

Elevated CA 15-3 concentration may be associated with the progression or metastasis of breast cancer, while increased CA-125 levels – with ovarian carcinoma. However, the concentration of these markers may also increase in other malignant diseases or benign conditions, such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, or liver diseases. Therefore, elevated test results alone do not confirm a cancer diagnosis, and normal results do not completely exclude it.

Principle of the test: CA 15-3 and CA-125 concentrations are determined by immunochemical methods from venous blood. Results are presented in U/ml units. Tests can be evaluated dynamically, observing changes in markers during treatment or monitoring the course of the disease.
