How to Prepare for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) Urine Tests

URINE COLLECTION FOR PCR METHOD TESTING

  1. Primary urine is used for PCR testing (the patient should not have urinated for at least two hours before sample collection). In the morning upon waking, without washing the external genitalia, starting from the first drops.
  2. Urine is collected in a clean, sterile disposable container. Before unscrewing the lid, wash hands with warm water and soap. Place the unscrewed lid on a clean tissue.
  3. 10 - 20 ml of urine is needed for the test.
  4. The patient's last name, first name, collection date, and time are written on the container.
  5. Urine intended for the test can be stored at +2 to +8 °C in securely closed sterile disposable containers and delivered to the laboratory as soon as possible.
  6. No other tests are performed from urine collected for PCR testing, such as general urine test, urine culture, etc. To perform these, a new urine sample must be taken following a different urine collection instruction and performed the next day.
