Autumn is just around the corner! Check your child's health before school now.

As we prepare for the new school year, we remind you of the importance of taking care of children's health. All children under 18 (and older students who study in general education programs at schools) must have a preventive health check once a year. The annual preventive children's health check helps to identify health issues in time, encourages lifestyle adjustments, and considers the child's health needs in the educational process. Children's health is checked by a family doctor.

Family doctor Justina Bezliapovič shares:

How does the child's health check work?

“The child's health check includes basic parameters: height and weight measurement, vision and hearing check, lung auscultation, heart function check, and posture evaluation. Additionally, if necessary, decisions are made regarding required blood tests or specialist consultations.”

What advice would you give to parents before coming for a check-up?

“Never scare the child. At home, simulate or explain how the health check might proceed. Familiarizing the child with the procedure usually helps everything go much more smoothly.”

How to prepare for a preventive child health check?

  • It is necessary to have the patient's identity card when arriving,
  • The patient (up to 16 years old) must be accompanied by one of the parents/guardians,
  • A dentist check must be performed before arriving,
  • A urine sample must be brought when arriving (read how to prepare for a urine test here).
